Introduction

Notelo (“we”, “us”, “our” or “Developer”) is a voice and text notes app. Since version 2.0 it is built so that your recordings and notes stay on your own devices: transcription and summaries run on your iPhone, there are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and we do not run any server that receives your notes or audio. This policy explains what the app keeps on the device, what leaves it and why, the third-party service involved in purchases (RevenueCat), and the rights you have.

It applies to the Notelo app for iPhone, its widgets, Live Activity, share extension and controls, and the Notelo app for Apple Watch (together, the “Application”).

1. Information the Application Keeps on Your Devices

All of the following is stored on your iPhone (and, for recordings made there, your Apple Watch), inside the Application’s private storage. None of it is sent to us.

Recordings: the audio you record, import or share to Notelo. The microphone is used only while you are recording, after you start a recording yourself.
Notes: transcripts, text notes, titles, summaries, Spaces, favorites, bookmarks and trims.
Settings and state: your transcription language, appearance, default tab, reminder time, a cached “Notelo Pro unlocked” flag so paid features work offline, and small records of whether you have seen the welcome tour or a rating card.

Transcription uses Apple’s speech recognition on the device. iOS may download a speech model for your language from Apple the first time; Apple handles that download. Your audio is not sent to us or to any other company for transcription.

Summaries (Notelo Pro) are written by Apple’s on-device language model (Apple Intelligence). The text being summarised stays on the iPhone.

Apple Watch: a recording made on the watch is sent directly to your iPhone through Apple’s Watch connectivity, and stays on the watch until your iPhone has saved it. Your iPhone sends the watch your transcription language, whether Notelo Pro is unlocked and which recordings were saved.

Widgets, Live Activity and controls: the Home Screen widget (Notelo Pro) shows the titles of your recent notes, and the Live Activity shows a running recording on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. They show only what is on the device. Anyone who can see your screen can see them.

Exported and shared files: when you share or export a note (text, audio, PDF, Markdown, JSON or CSV), the file goes where you send it through the iOS share sheet. From then on it is under your control, not the Application’s, and we have no access to it.

Device backups: if iCloud Backup or a computer backup is turned on, iOS may include the Application’s data in that backup. This is controlled by your device settings, not by us.

2. iCloud Sync (Notelo Pro)

With Notelo Pro, your notes and their audio are synced between your devices through Apple’s iCloud, in your own private iCloud database. This is handled by Apple under your Apple Account; we cannot see or access it. If Notelo Pro ends, syncing stops at the next launch and nothing is deleted, on the device or in iCloud. You can delete Notelo’s iCloud data in the iOS Settings app (your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Notelo).

3. Information We Do Not Collect

No user accounts, names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts or location.
No audio, transcripts, notes or summaries. Nothing you record or write reaches a server of ours.
No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across apps or websites.
No crash reporting or analytics services in the Application other than the anonymous purchase and usage information described in Section 4.

4. Purchases and Usage Information (RevenueCat)

Notelo offers an optional upgrade, Notelo Pro, as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store with your Apple Account.

To check whether Notelo Pro is unlocked, the Application uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), a purchase-verification service. The RevenueCat software in the Application:

assigns a random, anonymous app user ID (not linked to your name or to any account of ours);
processes the App Store purchase and transaction information needed to confirm and restore Notelo Pro;
receives a few anonymous usage facts that we use to improve the Application: how far you got in the welcome tour (for example “slide 2” or “done”), when the Notelo Pro screen was last shown or closed and how often it was closed, and which part of the app it was opened from when a purchase starts.

RevenueCat never receives your recordings, notes, transcripts, summaries, name or email address. This information is not used for advertising and is not shared with data brokers. RevenueCat handles it under its own Privacy Policy. Apple handles payments under the Apple Media Services terms and Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment details.

5. When You Contact Us

If you send feedback from the Application, it opens an email to us that you can read before sending. It includes your message and a short diagnostic footer: the Notelo version, the iOS version, the device model and whether Notelo Pro is unlocked. We use your email only to answer you, and you can ask us to delete it.

6. Notifications

Notelo’s reminders and alerts are scheduled on your device. We do not send you push notifications from a server. iCloud sync (Section 2) may use Apple’s silent notifications to keep your devices up to date.

7. How Information Is Used

The information above is used only to record, transcribe, summarise, organise and show your notes; to sync them through your iCloud when you choose Notelo Pro; to unlock and restore Notelo Pro; to answer your messages; and, in the anonymous form described in Section 4, to see where the welcome tour and the Notelo Pro screen can be improved.

We do not sell, rent, share or trade any information. The only parties outside your devices involved in using Notelo are Apple (the App Store, iCloud, Watch connectivity and speech models) and RevenueCat (purchases and the anonymous usage facts in Section 4). We would disclose information only if required by law, and we hold no copy of your notes or recordings to disclose.

9. Earlier Versions of Notelo

Before version 2.0, Notelo created AI summaries by sending the text of a note (never the audio) through our server to OpenRouter, an AI service. Notelo 2.0 removed that server and that service: summaries are now made on the device. If you have a question about information an earlier version processed, or want it deleted, contact us (Section 13).

10. Children’s Privacy

Notelo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child’s information has reached us, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Data Retention and Security

Your notes and recordings stay on your devices, and in your iCloud if you use sync, until you delete them: delete a note in the Application, or delete the Application to remove everything it keeps on that device, and remove it from iCloud and any backups if you wish. RevenueCat and Apple keep purchase records under their own retention policies, so that purchases can be restored.

The Application’s data is protected by the device’s app sandbox and data protection. No technology is risk-free: please protect your devices with a passcode and keep your Apple Account secure.

12. Your Rights

EU and EEA (GDPR): you have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Because we hold none of your notes or recordings, these rights mostly concern the data on your devices and in your iCloud (which you control directly), and RevenueCat’s purchase and usage records. The purchase check is based on our legitimate interest in unlocking what you paid for, and the anonymous usage facts on our legitimate interest in improving the Application. You may also complain to a data protection authority; the Developer is based in Poland, so the lead authority is the Urząd Ochrony Danych Osobowych (UODO), uodo.gov.pl.
California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know and to delete. We do not sell or share personal information.
